Night of the Jackal

2017

Sinopsis

-

At Moto Studio, we teamed up with SHAVEURLEGZ to create an immersive multimedia Halloween experience that transformed partygoers into patients within a sanatorium-themed event. Each stage of the party represented a different phase of treatment, brought to life through distinct visual styles. Diagnosis was depicted through visuals reminiscent of Rorschach tests, while treatment was represented with captivating optical art. This approach allowed us to craft a narrative-driven, sensory-rich journey for all attendees.

Interactive Mural

-

In this interactive installation, participants could bring projections to life through hand gestures, utilizing Kinect technology. They had the opportunity to draw on branded backgrounds, creating a lasting brand impression while enjoying a fun and memorable experience for viewers.

Projection Mapping

-

Captivating visuals invited guests to interact with a 5-foot-tall 3D camel. With projection mapping we crafted an opportunity for visitors to engage with the installation and raise brand awareness.

Social Media Package

-

The social media package was designed to resemble a medical profile archive from the sanatorium, with each artist spotlight fitting seamlessly into the world and story we had created. This approach ensured the narrative remained consistent to the world we had created.

Scavenger Hunt

-

A scavenger hunt was organized during the party, prompting visitors to discover a goodie bag filled with themed merch. In it they could find products from the event’s sponsors as well as hand-crafted pieces. These were produced in-house at our silk screening workshop, adding a personal touch to the experience.

“We wanted to communicate the chaos and disorder you would find inside a sanatorium.”

Process

-

One of the most exciting parts of the process was the opportunity of being able to direct the display design. We wanted to communicate the chaos and disorder you would find inside a sanatorium. So we decided to arrange the screens in an erratic pattern and generate random iterations of visuals to further reinforce the concept of chaos and madness.

Interactive Keynote

-

We aimed to create a presentation that elevated the information being shared while visually captivating the audience.

Mapping & Installation

-

In collaboration with Material Foam, we developed a foam structure that served as a canvas for projecting supporting visuals, setting the tone for the keynote. This structure helped frame the audience's focus on the center of the presentation while also activating the surrounding space.

Creative Process

-

After discussing the initial visual concept with the client, we realized a different approach would better align with their vision, leading us to pivot. We adopted a more simplistic style that communicated the innovation mindset of Abacus Exchange and successfully fulfilled their expectations.

“The show illuminated the building on the night of the ceremony,
weaving together the origins of the company and the cacao bean itself.”

Projection Mapping

-

We brought the chocolate-making process to life through a blend of 2D and 3D animations. Each stage of the story was crafted with a mix of textures, visuals, and characters, designed not only to engage the senses but also to enhance the existing architecture of the building, creating an unforgettable evening.

Process

-

Based on the client’s vision, we developed a script that clearly guided our animation process. Having collaborated with the brand before, our familiarity with their identity allowed us to seamlessly design and animate the visuals. To ensure precision, our team even ventured onto the roof of a nearby building in order to properly map the projection.

Maraca

2019

Sinopsis

-

The creators of Maraca, a fusion cuisine restaurant in the heart of La Zona Colonial, approached us to design the restaurant’s visual identity. The art-deco jungle-inspired space served as a constant source of inspiration throughout the entire process. Our goal was to create a system that would capture the essence of the place while also integrating a sophisticated way of communicating with their audience.

Design Process

-

Using the arch as a foundational element, we developed a series of characters and icons that playfully explore lines and curves while alluding to the restaurant’s tropical themes.

Relación Espacio - Diseño

-

The design system was deeply informed by the restaurant’s space itself. The architecture and interior design, with its bold colors and contrasting patterns, played a crucial role in guiding our creative direction.

Social Media and Art Direction

-

For Maraca’s social media content, we provided art direction on how the plates should be photographed as well as guidelines on how the identity system should interact with the content.

Visual Experience

-

We developed a series of backdrops for the terrace, projecting a different sceneries onto the walls. These designs were inspired by various elements of the restaurant, including its art deco style, lush environment, and even a Taino monument, imagining what La Zona Colonial might look like if the Taino people had survived the colonizers.

Projection Mapping Process

-

To maintain the clean, sophisticated look of the restaurant, we took into consideration the plantscape of the terrace when mapping the projections. Each plant was carefully mapped, and every few months, we provide maintenance to ensure the pristine appearance of the terrace is preserved.

La Isla Rota

2018

Sinopsis

-

Lone Coconut invited us to collaborate on developing the title sequence for the film “La Isla Rota.” They envisioned the sequence to be based on a cockfight, — a blood sport rooted in the rural areas of the Dominican Republic — to represent the main conflict of the story. With their concept and our vision, we elevated the footage into something more, offering viewers a glimpse of the story ahead while also building suspense.

Motion Design

Process

-

Working with the footage provided by the client, we meticulously rotoscoped each shot at 120 frames per second. We used the cockfight as a mask to reveal glimpses of key moments in the film, carefully selecting scenes that corresponded to the role of the person whose credit was being displayed. For instance, if the credit was for the “Costume Designer,” we highlighted scenes that showcased their work, while also ensuring that each element contributed to the overall tension and atmosphere of the sequence.

The Logo

-

The drop, a key visual element from the former branding, was chosen to complement the V, leading to the creation of a simple yet recognizable logotype. We selected black as the primary color, ensuring a striking contrast with the vibrant colors of the food. The design system was crafted to be as straightforward as possible, ensuring that the brand’s visual coherence would be maintained across all applications.
